Lake Martin
One of the world's largest artificial bodies of water and voted by several major publications as the #1 retirement spot in the United States, Lake Martin offers an endless supply of recreational opportunities for you and your family. Located in East Central Alabama, it's frequented by many all over the Southeast. Lake Martin Dam, built in 1923 at Cherokee Bluffs on the Tallapoosa River, still has much of the original equipment in use today, including the huge water wheel.
Its amazing beauty, 44,000 surface acres of water and over 750 miles of wooded shoreline produce a natural, graceful landscape. The lake offers amenities such as public boat ramps, picnic tables, walking trails and public restrooms.
Whether you enjoy cruising, skiing, wakeboarding, picnicking, sailing or swimming, there is something for everyone and every age on Lake Martin.
